Two-Thirds of Singapore Students Use AI to Help Them Learn
Approximately two-thirds of students in Singapore reported using AI chatbots at least once a week to help with their learning. While the average across OECD countries was 46 percent, AI use among students in Singapore was significantly higher.
Between 41 and 46 percent of students in Singapore said they frequently use AI to research new topics, summarise texts, and draft text for writing assignments. Only 4 percent reported that they never or hardly ever use AI chatbots for schoolwork.
Students in Singapore reported spending an average of 2.1 hours per day using digital devices for learning activities at school. This was higher than the OECD average of 1.7 hours. Students also reported spending approximately one hour a day using digital devices for leisure at school.
Meanwhile, students who used AI once or twice a week for general learning purposes performed at a similar level to students who did not use AI. The OECD noted that digital tools can support learning when they are used purposefully and in moderation. However, excessive use or a lack of guidance can lead to distraction and negatively affect learning outcomes.
