Education Curricula Overhauled in France
In an effort to provide a more relevant and responsive education system, France has undertaken a major overhaul of its core subject curricula. The EVARS programme, set to be introduced in the 2025 academic year, aims to help pupils better understand themselves and their emotions.
At the primary school level, the EVARS programme focuses on themes such as self-awareness and violence prevention. In lower secondary education, the emphasis shifts towards health, gender equality, and combating discrimination.
Alongside EVARS, the Moral and Civic Education (EMC) curriculum has also been revised to promote citizenship awareness, individual rights, and social responsibility. The modern foreign language curriculum, meanwhile, has been updated with the goal of helping students adapt to an increasingly globalised world.
Revisions to the French and mathematics curricula have prioritised the development of reading comprehension, critical thinking, and logical reasoning skills.
The French Ministry of Education has stated that these reforms are designed to improve academic achievement and foster a more inclusive learning environment.
