Elite Universities in the US Exposed for Favouring Wealthy and Influential Families

It has been revealed that elite universities in the United States have granted preferential treatment to the children of wealthy and influential families. Documents presented in a case at the Chicago Federal Court showed that the former president of Georgetown University placed a billionaire’s daughter on a special admissions list after meeting her father at a conference famously referred to as the "billionaires' summer camp."

At MIT, it was documented that four out of six students recommended by the chair of the board of trustees were admitted, despite two of them not meeting the usual standards for acceptance. Similarly, an email sent in 2012 by Notre Dame University’s former official, Don Bishop, admitted that the academic qualifications of students in a special interest group that year were lower compared to the previous year.

At Vanderbilt University, it was disclosed that students able to pay full tuition were given an advantage on the waiting list. As part of the lawsuit, 10 out of 17 universities involved have agreed to pay a total of $284 million in settlements.
