Singapore’s Vision of AI Bridges the US-China Divide
In a rare show of global unity, researchers from the US, China, and Europe gathered in Singapore and released the “Singapore Consensus” — a blueprint for international cooperation on AI safety. Spearheaded by MIT’s Max Tegmark, the document emphasizes collaboration over competition and urges work on three fronts: identifying risks of advanced models, exploring safer development methods, and designing control mechanisms for powerful systems.
The consensus emerged during a high-profile AI safety meeting held alongside the International Conference on Learning Representations (ICLR) on April 26. Attendees included experts from OpenAI, Google DeepMind, Meta, and leading universities such as Stanford and Tsinghua.
