UAE makes AI mandatory school subject across education
The UAE has taken a pioneering step in education by making Artificial Intelligence (AI) a mandatory subject across all government schools, from kindergarten through Grade 12, starting next academic year. The initiative, announced by Vice President and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, aligns with the nation’s long-term vision to prepare students for a rapidly transforming technological landscape.
Developed by the Ministry of Education, the new curriculum will cover essential topics including data, algorithms, machine learning, real-world applications, and the societal impacts of AI. Ethical dimensions such as data privacy and algorithmic fairness will also be integral components, reflecting the UAE’s commitment to responsible innovation.
This bold move establishes the UAE as a global front-runner in AI education. While some countries have introduced AI-related content in selective areas, the UAE’s approach—nationwide and across all grade levels—is unprecedented.
