The conflict that erupted in Sudan in April 2023 is severely impacting university students' mental health. According to extensive research conducted by the University of Khartoum, students in Khartoum and surrounding areas are experiencing dramatically increased levels of stress, anxiety, and depression due to the ongoing conflict. The prolonged closure of universities and disruptions in educational activities have intensified students' anxiety about their futures. Additionally, damage to educational facilities and large-scale displacement have compounded psychological pressures. Experts warn that the traumatic events experienced by students could have long-lasting consequences.
Researchers and education specialists urgently call for comprehensive psychological support programs for university students. They recommend developing online education opportunities to mitigate the conflict's impact, establishing education centers in safer areas, and providing necessary support to help students continue their academic activities. Collaboration between universities and local NGOs to provide psychological counseling services to students is strongly encouraged. Experts also advocate specialized training for university lecturers to better manage students' mental health issues during this challenging period.
