Physical Activity Enhances Academic Performance

Comprehensive research conducted by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 2019 and 2023 has clearly demonstrated a significant link between high school students' physical activity levels and their academic success. According to the studies, only 24% of high school students met the recommended guidelines of being physically active for at least 60 minutes every day of the week. The research found notable variations based on academic performance: while 32% of students who primarily received "A" grades met these activity guidelines, this percentage dropped to just 17% among students who mostly received "D" and "F" grades. Additionally, it was observed that 54% of students spent more than three hours each day in front of screens playing computer or video games, emphasizing the need for initiatives promoting physical activity among youth. Researchers underscored the critical role educational institutions can play, considering students spend a substantial portion of their daily lives at school. To indirectly support academic achievement, they recommended schools organize activities to encourage movement, provide active breaks during the school day, and actively support sports clubs and programs. The research also highlighted the importance of collaboration between schools and families to boost physical activity at home. Experts suggested implementing educational programs for parents to help reduce children's screen time and encourage their participation in physical activities. Ultimately, the studies conclude that increasing students' physical activity levels not only enhances their academic performance but also significantly improves their overall health.
