Technology-Driven Transformation Brings Educational Success in Kenya and Rwanda

Projects in the field of educational technologies (Tech4Ed) in Kenya and Rwanda have achieved significant success in enhancing the quality and inclusiveness of education. Both countries have implemented digital solutions to transform their education systems and support student achievement.

In Kenya, a technology-supported, competency-based curriculum was introduced in 2023 with the support of a $116.6 million grant from the Global Partnership for Education (GPE). As part of this initiative, digital training programmes were developed for teachers, and data analytics were used to create personalised learning materials for students. Through the Digital Literacy Programme, students showed notable progress in both numeracy and language skills.

In Rwanda, education quality improvement programmes were launched with $31.29 million in funding from the GPE, which is the world’s largest fund dedicated solely to transforming education in lower-income countries. Thanks to digital learning materials and teacher support initiatives, teacher absenteeism decreased and student engagement increased significantly. Furthermore, a partnership with Rising Academies—one of Africa’s fastest-growing, quality-focused education companies—led to clear improvements in students’ foundational literacy and numeracy skills.

With this comprehensive integration of technology through public–private collaboration, both Kenya and Rwanda have taken a major step towards achieving sustainable success in education.
