Trump Launches AI Initiative for American Youth
On 23 April, US President Donald Trump signed a presidential executive order launching a comprehensive artificial intelligence (AI) education programme aimed at American youth. According to the decree, the initiative seeks to ensure that students understand, utilise, and develop AI technologies from an early age. President Trump stated that the programme is part of his vision to maintain America's global leadership in the field of artificial intelligence.
As part of the initiative, a new “Task Force on AI Education” will be established within the White House. Key figures such as the Secretaries of Education, Labour, Energy, and Agriculture, along with the Director of the National Science Foundation, will be included in this task force. Its main responsibility will be to coordinate the integration of AI into national education policies across the country.
The executive order also outlines plans for a “Presidential Artificial Intelligence Challenge”, targeting various age groups and regions. The competition aims to encourage AI-related achievements among students and teachers, while fostering greater collaboration with the private sector.
The order places strong emphasis on the use of AI in education. It includes provisions for the development of online resources for students from primary through to secondary levels, the training of teachers in AI-related competencies, and the widespread adoption of AI-assisted learning materials. Furthermore, it supports AI-focused curricula in vocational training and internship programmes targeted at young people.
