Artificial Intelligence Takes Center Stage in China’s Education Reforms
The Chinese Ministry of Education has announced plans to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) applications into teaching methods, textbooks, and the school curriculum as part of a broader effort to reform the education system. According to the official statement, this initiative aims to enhance the core skills of both students and teachers, while fostering the “core competitiveness” of innovative talent.
The targeted competencies for students include independent thinking, problem-solving, effective communication, and collaboration. The statement emphasized that AI-powered classrooms will provide more innovative and cognitively stimulating environments, enabling students to engage in deeper and more meaningful learning experiences.
In early 2024, China attracted international attention with DeepSeek, a domestically developed language model, and expanded its AI course offerings and student enrollment at universities. That same year, the government introduced its national action plan titled “Strong Education Nation by 2045,” which centers on innovation and technological efficiency.
AI integration in education is seen not only as a technological enhancement but also as a strategic investment in national development. Chinese officials have stated that AI in education will support the country’s economic growth and global competitiveness, emphasizing that artificial intelligence is not merely a tool, but a force shaping the future.
