AI Excels at Spotting Brain Myths

A study by Martin Luther Halle-Wittenberg University found that large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT can identify common misconceptions about the brain and learning—known as neuromyths—with around 80% accuracy when asked directly. However, when false assumptions were embedded within scenarios, AI tended to reinforce them rather than correct them. Researchers attribute this to the models’ “people-pleasing” nature, but noted that explicitly prompting AI to correct unfounded assumptions significantly improved accuracy.
