The "Artificial Intelligence Index Report 2025," released on April 7, 2025, by Stanford University's Institute for Human-Centered AI, reveals an intensifying global competition in the AI sector. The report indicates that the number of high-performing AI models developed in China is increasing, challenging the United States' leadership, and the performance gap among top models is narrowing. Specifically, on the Chatbot Arena Leaderboard, the performance advantage of the top-ranked model over the tenth-ranked model decreased from 12% in early 2024 to 5% in early 2025, highlighting the escalating competition in the AI field. Additionally, the report notes that while AI models are generally growing by utilizing more decision-making variables, increased computing power, and larger training datasets, smaller and more efficient models are also achieving significant success. Thanks to advanced algorithms, a modern model can now match the performance of a model 100 times larger from two years ago. This trend suggests that smaller teams and individual researchers can also make innovative contributions to the AI sector.
