Egypt’s Investment in Young Scientists

In a strategic move to enhance the competencies of young scientists and strengthen their contributions to scientific research, Egypt has launched a new initiative entitled the Young Researchers Academy (YRA). The programme has been developed in collaboration with the Egyptian Knowledge Bank (EKB) and the international research analytics organisation Clarivate.Announced on 30 April by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the academy aims to equip young researchers with comprehensive training opportunities, enabling them to compete effectively at both national and international levels. As part of the programme, participants will receive both theoretical and practical training in a range of critical areas, including academic writing, selection of scientific journals, ethical evaluation, preparation of funding applications, development of university-industry collaborations, research communication, and the establishment of international partnerships. Professor Dr Gina El-Feki, General Coordinator of the EKB, stated that one of the core objectives of the programme is to provide young scientists with a clear professional vision and to elevate them to a level where they can make meaningful contributions to Egypt’s research ecosystem. In its initial phase, the programme is expected to reach 1,500 young researchers. The initiative is anticipated to boost the country’s research capacity and contribute to the development of an innovative, knowledge-based, and sustainable economy. Furthermore, the academy sets an important example for similar initiatives across the African continent.
