UAE Launches Early AI Education Starting at Age 4
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has decided to launch artificial intelligence education in public schools starting from the age of four to prepare children for the requirements of the AI age. Education Minister Sarah al-Amiri stated that this initiative is not only an investment in the future workforce but also a result of the lessons learned from the delayed reaction to technological developments such as social media. Al-Amiri emphasized that platforms like TikTok and Instagram were not addressed in time, and this mistake should not be repeated in the context of artificial intelligence.
It was learned that the new curriculum includes ethical AI usage, critical evaluation of information from AI, and effective communication skills with chatbot programs like ChatGPT. As part of the initiative, students will also learn how to write accurate prompts, benefit from AI in research, and avoid plagiarism. The program is reported to be limited to 20 instructional hours per year.
In the UAE, which collaborates with companies such as Microsoft and Cerebras with the goal of global leadership in AI, integration of AI into legislative processes is also on the agenda. In the country, where the education system is being reorganized, the ministry also plans to transform mathematics instruction as part of this process.
