Tajikistan Launches Digital Education Transformation

Tajikistan has declared 2025–2030 as the “Period of Digital Economy and Innovation” and initiated a comprehensive transformation in the field of digital education. This initiative is aligned with the country’s 2020–2030 National Education Strategy and its Digital Education Transition Framework. The main goals include expanding access to remote learning and promoting greater equity in education.

However, the limited use of remote learning during the pandemic indicates that these policies have yet to be fully tested in practice. Research conducted under the Global Partnership for Education’s (GPE) KIX technical support programme highlights significant gaps in areas such as digital infrastructure, teacher training, and equal access.

In the capital, Dushanbe, only 56 per cent of teachers have access to the internet, while in rural areas this figure drops to just 9 per cent. Girls, ethnic minorities, and students in remote regions are among the least likely to benefit from digital education opportunities.

The Ministry of Education is prioritising teacher development, school infrastructure improvement, and the creation of locally relevant content. With support from international partners such as UNICEF and EdTech Hub, ongoing projects aim to enhance Tajikistan’s capacity for digital education.
