France Opens Its Doors to US Academics

In response to research funding cuts under US President Donald Trump, France has extended a hand to American academics facing increasing difficulties. Aix-Marseille University (AMU), located in the south of France, welcomed eight researchers from the United States on Thursday as part of its “Safe Place for Science” initiative. These scholars are part of the first group of twenty expected to relocate over the coming months.

Launched in March, the AMU programme has already received approximately 300 applications from prestigious institutions such as Stanford, NASA, and the University of California, Berkeley. University officials have confirmed that the selected academics will receive up to three years of research funding, along with a secure and supportive working environment.

With nearly 12,000 international students, AMU stands as one of France’s largest and most globally engaged universities.
