Over 3,000 Drug Cases Recorded in US Schools

In the United States, the Substance Abuse Advisory Council announced that a total of 3,041 drug-related incidents linked to schools were recorded across the country last year. The Council’s Chief Executive Officer, Josua Naisele, stated that the majority of these cases involved illegal substances such as cigarettes, tobacco, and alcohol, while marijuana was involved in only a very limited number of incidents.

Naisele emphasised that students are more likely to turn to drug use, particularly when they are out in the community without adequate family supervision or guidance, stressing the importance of robust support systems both at home and in schools. “When children come home from school, talk to them,” said Naisele, urging parents to pay closer attention to their children and to spend quality time with them.

He added that when children feel seen, heard, and supported at home, they are less likely to seek attention elsewhere, underlining that strong family relationships play a vital role in guiding young people towards a safer and healthier life.
