“Study in China” Trend Gains Momentum Among International Students
The growing “Study in China” trend among international students shows that China’s influence in global higher education is increasing. According to official data, in the 2024–2025 academic year, more than 380,000 international students from 191 countries and regions participated in degree programs, research activities, or training at various educational institutions in China. This figure represents a 15 percent increase compared with the previous year. As a result, China has become one of the world’s major education destinations for international students.
China’s universities are increasingly preferred due to the country’s modernization of its education system in recent years, its sustained economic growth, and its expanding global educational partnerships. China also continues to invest in strengthening the international competitiveness of its universities. By the end of 2025, the country had 373 cooperative educational institutions and programs offering postgraduate or higher-level education, 69 of which provided doctoral programs.
Among the factors supporting the “Study in China” trend are simplified entry and residence procedures for international students. The Chinese government is streamlining relevant policies to make the education process more efficient for foreign students. In addition, the spread of multilingual support in administrative and public services in Chinese cities is increasing the country’s appeal for international students.
