UN and OECD Launch New Collaboration on AI Risks and Opportunities
Following the Summit of the Future in New York, OECD Deputy Secretary-General Ulrik Vestergaard Knudsen and UN Under-Secretary-General Amandeep Singh Gill announced a new partnership between the OECD and the UN focused on global AI governance.
The collaboration responds to the rapid development of AI technologies and the need for cohesive policy frameworks. Gill highlighted the importance of evidence-based assessments in managing AI risks and opportunities, while Knudsen emphasized the OECD’s existing efforts, such as the AI Policy Observatory and Global Partnership on AI, which will support the collaboration.
The joint effort will focus on regular assessments of AI risks and opportunities, with a goal of fostering globally inclusive, safe, and human-centered AI governance.
