OpenAI Launches ChatGPT Health in the U.S.
OpenAI has launched a new ChatGPT feature, ChatGPT Health, in the United States. The feature allows users to share their medical records and data from health apps such as MyFitnessPal, aiming to provide more personalized health recommendations.
The company emphasizes that this data will be kept separate from other chats and will not be used to train AI models. It also stresses that the feature is designed to support, not replace, medical care and should not be used for diagnosis or treatment.
Experts note that health data is extremely sensitive, requiring robust privacy safeguards. While OpenAI intends to use information from health apps and medical records to deliver more personalized responses, the limited regulatory framework in the U.S. still poses risks for personal health information.
For now, OpenAI is testing ChatGPT Health with a small group of users and has opened a waitlist for access. The feature is not yet available in the U.K., Switzerland, or the European Economic Area, where tech companies must comply with stricter regulations on processing and protecting user data.
