A Trinity College Dublin feature argues that artificial intelligence, when used wisely, could democratise higher education. University leaders say AI‑driven personalised learning tools can reduce costs and expand access, making education more inclusive. 

Yet risks such as over-reliance, threats to academic integrity, data privacy concerns, and biased training data remain. That is why AI in universities must be framed not just as an efficiency tool but within ethics and equity. It should serve to empower students, while elevating uniquely human qualities such as creativity and judgment.
