Economic Reform in an Interconnected World: China’s Story and Global Perspectives

As part of Global Reflections series, Institute Social is honored to welcome Professor Fan Shitao of Beijing Normal University, a leading scholar of China’s economic reform and institutional transformation. Drawing on decades of research and policy engagement, Professor Fan will examine the intellectual foundations, key stages, and unresolved tensions of China’s reform trajectory, situating them within today’s interconnected global economy. The talk will explore how institutional change, market mechanisms, and state capacity have interacted over time, and what lessons China’s experience offers for economists studying development, transition, and comparative political economy.

We would be delighted to have you join this in-depth conversation with Prof. Fan, where we will engage in a rigorous discussion on reform models, policy learning, and the limits of cross-national comparison.
