Comprehensive Reform from the Polish Ministry of Education
The Polish Ministry of Education has unveiled the details of a large-scale educational reform that will span from 2025 to 2032. Introduced under the title “Reform26 – The Compass of Tomorrow,” the initiative aims to fundamentally transform the structure of the education system and align it with modern educational standards. The main elements of the reform include a clearer and more coherent core curriculum, an increase in practical and project-based lessons, the introduction of a new assessment system, and greater autonomy and support for teachers.
The ministry announced that the reform will be implemented gradually, beginning in the 2025/2026 academic year and concluding in 2031/2032. Among the planned changes are the introduction of new subjects such as citizenship education and health education, a renewed approach to natural sciences, and the establishment of an assessment system focused on feedback and competency development. The new framework prioritizes the acquisition of key skills and competencies over rote memorization. To support teacher development, the reform also provides for free professional training, postgraduate programs, and modern teaching tools.
At the heart of the reform is a document prepared by the Educational Research Institute titled “Profile of a Preschool and Primary School Graduate.” This document defines the knowledge, skills, and attitudes students are expected to acquire throughout their education and serves as the guiding compass of the reform.According to the Ministry of Education, the reform will simplify and enrich students’ learning experiences while providing teachers with greater freedom to implement innovative teaching practices.
