China Prioritizes Qualified Teachers in Education Reform Strategy
China has decided to strengthen its teaching staff as part of its education system reform by training higher-quality professionals, especially in rural and less developed areas. Ministry of Education officials announced on Monday that a new set of guidelines has been issued, which includes various measures such as enhancing teachers’ professional integrity, conduct, and skills, optimizing the distribution of educational resources, and protecting the rights and interests of teachers.
Deputy Minister of Education Wang Jiayi stated that these guidelines will ensure that approximately 18.92 million teachers in the country become competent educators who can support the world’s largest education system. Jiayi emphasized that by 2035, the goal is to make teaching one of the most respected and admired professions in China, with zero tolerance for abuses and violations related to teacher regulations.
Yu Weiyue, one of the ministry directors, indicated that more training and support would be provided to teachers in rural and less developed areas, particularly those teaching subjects with a shortage of teachers. Yu also mentioned that the training for primary and secondary school teachers would be enhanced and that these teachers’ professional integrity and skills play a key role in raising the country’s education standards.
