How AI And Humans Will Transform the Current Education System

As the US education system struggles with understaffing, overcrowded classrooms and underpaid teachers, data from the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) shows that less than a third of eighth graders are performing at the expected level in mathematics. This is an indication that century-old approaches to education are failing to meet the needs of the modern world. Teachers are finding it increasingly difficult to give individual attention to large groups of students with different abilities and backgrounds. This makes the need to personalize learning opportunities all the more important.

At Stanford University’s Artificial Intelligence and Education Summit, important insights were shared on how artificial intelligence can support teachers and transform educational practice. AI can help teachers update the curriculum, assess student performance and tailor course content to individual needs. This has great potential to provide students with personalized learning experiences.

Due to the limitations of traditional education systems, if a student does not understand a subject, the rest of the class moves on and the student may fall behind. Artificial intelligence can play a crucial role in solving this problem. Adaptive learning platforms can identify each student’s level and gaps, allowing teachers to create curricula that meet their individual needs.

AI can also assist teachers, especially in busy classrooms with students of varying needs and abilities. This technology frees up time for teachers to interact more effectively with students and makes the educational process more efficient. Creative solutions supported by AI can engage and motivate students and make education more interesting.

But success in education is not limited to technology. The human factor, as well as AI tools, is still essential in understanding the individual needs of students and motivating them. While AI can serve as an excellent teacher’s assistant, the ability of teachers to connect with students on a personal level remains an indispensable part of the educational process.
