Czechia Introduces New Competence Framework for Teacher Graduates

The Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, in collaboration with pedagogical faculties of higher education institutions, has implemented a binding Competence Framework for teacher graduates.

The Competence Framework outlines 18 professional competencies grouped into six key areas: 1) teaching subjects and ensuring their provision for students, 2) planning and reflecting on teaching, 3) creating effective learning environments, 4) providing constructive feedback and assessment, 5) fostering professional collaboration, and 6) maintaining professional self-concept, development, ethics, and mental health. This framework emphasizes the importance of creating safe and supportive learning environments, fostering teamwork, delivering constructive feedback, and conducting regular evaluations to promote student growth and development.

Higher education institutions integrate this framework into teaching and practice, offering feedback, self-assessment tools, and a clearer understanding of the teaching profession for future educators. Although the framework is binding, meeting every specific competence is not legally required, allowing flexibility for educators while maintaining high standards. This initiative aims to elevate the quality of teacher education and align it with contemporary educational needs and professional expectations in Czechia.
