New Education Program Launched in India to Sustain Learning During the Holiday Period
In the Indian state of Jharkhand, a new education program has been launched to ensure that children do not disengage from learning during school holidays. Implemented by the Ministry of Education and designed as a community-based initiative, the Gram Shiksha Sangam program aims to help children maintain regular reading habits, particularly during the winter vacation period.
Officials stated that the program, implemented under the leadership of the Jharkhand Education Project Council (JEPC), is intended to prevent potential learning losses that may occur when schools are closed. As part of the initiative, sessions are organized in shared community spaces and open areas within villages, enabling the participation of children from different age groups. This approach seeks to make learning more accessible and inclusive.
According to the program guidelines, activities will be conducted for a minimum of two days during the winter break. During the sessions, children take part in activities such as reading stories, discussing illustrations, group reading, and sharing their thoughts. In this way, the learning process is transformed into an enjoyable and interactive experience. Active parental involvement stands out as one of the most important components of the program. Families are encouraged to read stories aloud to their children and participate in collective discussions. Officials note that this approach strengthens a culture of reading at home and supports learning processes beyond the classroom.
