New Curriculum: A Visionary Step in Education Modernization

The new education curriculum in Bangladesh, aiming to build a "smart Bangladesh," is being gradually implemented across primary, secondary, and higher secondary levels, with full adoption expected by 2027. Key features include focusing on practical learning, critical thinking, creativity, skill development, lifelong learning, holistic education, and continuous assessment, moving from rote memorization to problem-based learning. It incorporates current topics like coding, AI, data analytics, and soft skills like communication and emotional intelligence. The curriculum also emphasizes extracurricular activities, sports, and arts and adopts a 'no exam policy' for certain class levels, favoring continuous assessment methods. However, it faces false allegations from vested interests like coaching and note-guide businesses and political entities, claiming it reduces the emphasis on science and lacks subject selection options in class 9 compared to international standards.

The Ministry of Education refutes these claims, highlighting that the curriculum aligns with global education systems, with subject selection available at the higher secondary level. The curriculum aims for a more active, skill-based learning approach, preparing students for modern challenges. Despite initial difficulties in implementation and acceptance, the reform is crucial to modernizing education in Bangladesh.
