Xi Jinping Calls for Ideological Transformation in Chinese Education
Chinese President and General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, Xi Jinping, emphasized the importance of ideological and political education in schools for the new era. Xi stated that it is essential to operate under the guidance of the “Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era” and to fulfill the mission of promoting virtue. He stressed the importance of developing a textbook system based on this thought and integrating political education from elementary schools to universities.
Speaking at a meeting on May 11 in Beijing, which focused on the development of ideological-political courses, Xi emphasized that these courses should be targeted and engaging. He also noted that schools should cultivate individuals who are loyal to the Party, patriotic, and capable of shouldering the mission of national rejuvenation.
Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang, who attended the meeting, called for a thorough study and implementation of Xi’s directives. Ding emphasized the need for ongoing reform and innovation in ideological-political courses. He underscored the importance of helping students better understand national conditions and strengthen their ideals and beliefs. Additionally, Ding highlighted the need to improve mechanisms that ensure appropriate status and salaries for teachers of these courses.
