Global Reflections

“Pirated Therapy: Caste Distress and the Colonial Clinic” with Sushrut Jadhav

As part of our “Global Reflections” series organized by Institute Social, we are pleased to host Dr. Sushrut Jadhav, Professor of Cultural Psychiatry at University College London (UCL). In his talk titled “Pirated Therapy: Caste Distress and the Colonial Clinic,” Prof. Jadhav will examine how mental health, identity, and social inequalities can be addressed from a non-Western-centric perspective through the cast experience. Furthermore, he will open a discussion on how “healing” may not only be a clinical process focused on an individual’s inner world, but that historical, social, and identity-based inequalities must also be considered an integral part of therapy and well-being.

This talk offers a decolonial space for questioning clinical approaches assumed to be universal within psychology and mental health in Türkiye, encouraging reflection on understanding diverse social experiences through their own concepts and modes of knowledge production.

We warmly invite you to join us for this special in-person event at Institute Social.
